Molasses is a viscous substance resulting from refining sugarcane into sugar. Molasses varies in the amount of sugar, method of extraction and age of the plant. It is used to produce ethanol, by means of anaerobic fermentations using microorganisms which is an ingredient in cattle feed, or as a fertilizer. Blending of petrol with absolute alcohol minimizes the air pollution caused by the conventional fuels. Apart from this, molasses has been used for the production of industrial chemicals, cosmetics, coatings varnishes, and pharma industries.
