Pressmud is a good source of organic matter, NPK and important micronutrients and has established its importance in improving fertility, productivity and other physical properties of agricultural soils. Pressmud or filter cake, a waste by-product from sugar factories, is a soft, spongy, amorphous and dark brown to brownish material which contains sugar, fiber, coagulated colloids, including cane wax, albuminoids, inorganic salts and soil particles. Therefore, land application of this industrial waste for crop production provides a feasible and cost effective disposal alternative.
